About this class

What Senior Citizens Yoga is really about

Aging well is a practice — and yoga is one of the very few practices that addresses every aspect of it: balance (so you don't fall), mobility (so you stay independent), strength (so daily life remains effortless), and breath (so the lungs stay strong). Our senior batches are unhurried, joint-friendly, and unfailingly attentive. Many postures are taught from a chair when needed — there is nothing here that anyone over 60 cannot do.

Why join

The benefits you'll feel

Real, observable changes — most of them within the first month.

Better balance

The leading cause of injury in seniors is falling. Yoga directly addresses this.

Stronger bones

Weight-bearing postures help maintain bone density without gym work.

Pain management

Arthritis, knee pain, lower-back stiffness — gentle yoga is consistently shown to reduce pain.

Sharper memory

The combination of breath, focus and movement keeps the mind nimble.

Heart health

Slow breathing and gentle movement lower blood pressure and resting heart rate.

Better sleep

Many seniors sleep through the night for the first time in years after starting yoga.

Curriculum

What you'll learn

A structured curriculum, not a random sequence of postures. Every class builds on the last.

Who this is for:

Adults aged 60+. Whether you have arthritis, post-surgery stiffness, hypertension, diabetes, are recovering from an illness, or simply want to keep moving well — there is a place for you in this batch.

  • Gentle warm-ups for stiff joints
  • Chair-supported postures (no need to get on the floor)
  • Standing balance work — the most protective skill at this age
  • Hand and finger mobility — for arthritis prevention
  • Bhramari and three-part breathing — both safe for hypertension
  • Yoga Nidra — for deep rest and better sleep
  • How to sit safely, get up safely, and move through the day with awareness

In their words

From students of this class

"At 68, with knees that creak and a back that complains, I expected to manage 15 minutes. I am now in my fourth month and the morning batch is the most reliable hour of my day."
— Mr. Subramanyam, HSR Layout
"My doctor recommended Aikia after my knee replacement. The teachers know exactly what I can and cannot do. I walk better today than I have in five years."
— Mrs. Lakshmi R., Koramangala
FAQ

Common questions

I have arthritis. Will yoga make it worse?
Done correctly, yoga is consistently shown to reduce arthritis pain. We avoid the postures that aggravate it and work with what helps.
Do I need to be able to sit on the floor?
Not at all. Many of our seniors do the entire class from a chair, and progress to the floor only if and when they want to.
My doctor wants to know what postures I'll be doing — can you share that?
Of course. We're happy to share programs and adjust based on medical advice.
Is there a 'too old' age?
We currently have students in their late 70s and one gentleman in his 80s. Age is not a disqualification.
